COMPASSION

Affirmation of life is the spiritual act by which man ceases to live thoughtlessly and begins to devote himself to his life
with reverence in order to give it true value.

What is Life? The breath of a buffalo in the wintertime.

Chief Crowfoot
Crowfoot (1830-1890), Head Chief of the Blackfoot Nation, on approaching death is reported to have said:
A little while and I will be gone from among you, whither I cannot tell.

From nowhere we came, into nowhere we go.

What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the winter time. It is as the little shadow that runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.
While Crowfoot probably knew nothing of agnosticism nor Buddhism, his thoughts on life and death would be recognized by many agnostics and Buddhists.
