'an idea that preoccupies the mind and holds the attention' |
1. The state of being preoccupied; absorption of the attention or intellect.
2. Something that preoccupies or engrosses the mind: Money was their chief preoccupation.
3. Occupation of a place in advance; preoccupancy.
The word Preoccupation implies you occupy that place before you get there which is the opposite of my new fetish for mindfulness. Preoccupation puts me in the hosptal now when it is possibly months down the road before the medical procedure happens.
The attitude of being p[resent in your life and living each day for that day is actually helpful in dealing with the normal worries that accompany an upcoming surgery. It is out of your hands when you reach the operating table and how the surgical outcome is governed by fate and your surgeon's skill. Stay fit and healthy now by eating healthy foods, get restful sleep and stay positive mentally. Jon K-Z explains it like this aspect of taking a shower but your mind is already at the office so you are mindless of the process of taking the shower. Many of us go through our lives mindless of living and JK-Z's message is to wake up and be present in your life. Steven Jobs said it at Apple, "The Journey is the Reward.".
We cannot get carried away with planning for the future and ignoring the present reality of our lives or we will miss the beauty of simply being alive.
