In this show, Mel Van Dusen Presents David Chadwick, Buddhist Priest and Disciple of Soto Zen Priest Shunryu Suzuki. David Chadwick moved to California to from Texas to study Zen as a student of Shunryu Suzuki in 1966. In 1971, Chadwick was ordained as a Buddhist priest, shortly before Suzuki's death. Chadwick also assisted in the operation of the San Francisco Zen Center, the largest Soto Zen temple and practice organization in the United States and possibly anywhere outside of Japan, for several years. Chadwick has written several books and continues to "dabble in Buddhism and related matters." Among his works is Crooked Cucumber, the biography of Shunryu Suzuki, and "Thank You And OK!: an American Zen Failure in Japan", which chronicles his years in Japan. He lives with his family in Sonoma County, California.
