COMPASSION

Affirmation of life is the spiritual act by which man ceases to live thoughtlessly and begins to devote himself to his life
with reverence in order to give it true value.

Entropy and Chronic Illness

I read this quote just now and it sparked a thought about the human condition.  We all have the chronic illness called 'aging' but sometimes your fate is to have further suffering added to the "household variety of getting old" and you need to 'grin and bear it' or face a long and deep depression.  You need to escape the 'Jaws of the Black Dogs by managing your thoughts and realizing you cannot afford the self-indulgence of whining, complaining and indulging in negative thinking.  It is the quickest route to defeat.

The human condition is pretty tricky in general...the duality of being a God with a stomach.  We are constantly reminded of our mortality as we grow older and begin losing friends and loved one

I'm going to develop this idea some more on my Blogs about M.S. and 'Get a Life Now' because it is a survival thing avoiding depression.  Depression is epidemic in America.  Albert Ellis said we are constantly slipping in and out of sanity because our human condition is one of absurdity.  He coaches us to be aware of our thinking processes and to interrupt irrational thinking before it has more power and takes over your mind.

Mindfulness coaches us to stay in the moment and to be aware of our life unfolding and to enjoy the journey.   Awaken to your life and you can make regular adjustments to your thinking and behavior to make sure you are not sinking into irrational or depressive thinking.   Live with good intentions and a worthwhile purpose.   Peace of mind can be yours with a few adjustments to your daily habits and the way you live.

"I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what."
- Harper Lee

You meet the challenge of a chronic illness with no cure and no effective treatment like M.S. with the kind of bravery Harper Lee is describing in this quote.  You need to go forward knowing you cannot win this battle but can work around your short comings.

Every day above ground is a good day.  Everyday is a day to act in positive ways to improve your life and make a contribution to your community.

Whatever the outcome you need to keep trying.
