with reverence in order to give it true value.

From page 128 in the book, a poem by Soen Nakagawa:

All beings are flowers
blossoming
in a blossoming universe.

Soen Nakagawa (Japanese:; born Motoi Nakagawa; March 19, 1907–1984) was a Taiwanese-born Japanese rōshi and Zen Buddhist master in the Rinzai tradition. An enigmatic figure, Nakagawa had a major impact on Zen as it was practiced in the 20th century, both in Japan and abroad.

Soen's final thesis ar university was on the famous haiku poet, Matsuo Bashō.

Soen was viewed as an unorthodox, eccentric and controversial teacher within conventional Rinzai circles of his day.

In 1968 Nakagawa made his 7th trip to the USA to open New York Zendo Shobo-Ji on September 15.
