Affirmation of life is the spiritual act by which man ceases to live thoughtlessly and begins to devote himself to his life
with reverence in order to give it true value.

If your funny bone is in need of a workout or your spirits are sinking, the whacky web stands ready to help with a boundless supply of funny websites.

These are the Internet equivalent of standup comics, spitting out laugh lines and comedics.

The Short List of Funny Websites and Humor Apps
1. BREAK is a viral video site aimed mostly at men. It creates a lot of short videos and also pays users who submit original funny videos that are good enough to be featured on the Break.com home page. Published rates were up to $600 for a home page featured video as of October 2014. Trending topics included the usual "cute cats" and "funny babies," along with "amateur stunts," "news bloopers" and "office pranks." The site is owned by Defy Media, the product of a 2013 merger with Break Media. Other viral humor brands in the Defy/Break media empire include Smosh and MadeMan.com.

2. TICKLD bills itself as a "procrastination destination," which suggests it's all about helping people waste time with content designed to be so entertaining that they wind up delaying doing real work. The format is familiar to people who visit so-called viral sites--lots of pictures with text superimposed or appearing as an accompanying blurb. The site has content areas called "spooky," "gaming," "feels," "cute" and SMGS, which stands for "social media screen grabs." Its "meme generator" app consists of funny pictures inviting users to write captions. Tickld is based in Toronto, Ontario.

3. TheCHIVE is a highly visual site that's mainly popular with the under 35 male crowd, and it's filled with photos meant to be entertaining. Founded in 2008 by John and Leo Resig, the site offers a mix of user-generated content in the form of photo galleries, videos and short posts. It divides its humor into humorous categories like "Douchebags, FAIL, Idio, Meme, Doin it wrong, Cat Saturday and Dopamine Dump." The site seems to be dominated by male humor and offers a lot of photos of scantily clad women. It's part of the Resignation Media network of websites.

4. TheONION is one of the older original humor brands (dating back to 1988) that specializes in satire. It managed to transition from a print magazine empire to an Internet humor brand, ending its print edition in 2013. Online it calls itself The Onion News Network and publishes a series of fake or fictional news stories that are pure satire, though its news parodies occasionally get mistaken for truth as the stories get shared widely on social networks.

5. CRACKED pays writers for humorous ideas, stories, photos, infographics and other imagery. It runs a Photoplasty contest that involves whacky Photoshopped memes, where the site provides users with "a premise" and users supply funny images. Popular topics listed include "Boobs" and "zombies" and "hipsters" and "urban legends." Cracked got its start online in 2007 and is now owned by Demand Media; its roots go back into the world of print magazines, though, where the humor brand Cracked got started .For more about what Cracked is looking for in its writers, visit its info page for contributors.

6. FUNNYorDIE is a well known viral video site that went online in 2007 and has steadily grown more popular, perhaps thanks to its elaborate voting system that dispatches unloved videos (drawing less than 20 percent favorable ratings from other users) to the dustbin of sorts. and promotes the most popular ones based on ratings. The site was created by the production studio of two American comedians, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.

7. CHEEZBURGER is a social humor website (actually, a collection of websites) led by Ben Huh, an ex-journalist and entrepreneur who bought the "I Can Has Cheezburger" website in 2007 and built it into a popular entertainment service that consists mostly of user- generated content consisting of photos and screengrabs with text overlays--the classic meme formula for sharing on social networks. Its tag lines include "Make the Internets a funnier place" and "All your funny in one place."
